Flight bookings are not always performed by the passenger. Yes, the Internet era has made it easy for passengers to book their own flights online, but many flights are still booked by agencies.
For the infrequent flyer who merely wishes to go on vacation or visit family in another province, a bit of research on the Internet is usually sufficient. Normally, there are only a certain number of airlines that fly to certain domestic locations, and a quick search will reveal their website addresses and the search can commence. In all of twenty minutes, prices can be obtained from all the airlines for the same flight, and the cheapest one can be booked in advance and paid online.
However, when flying overseas, or when there are many connecting flights, a Travel Agent is advisable to book the flights and it is recommendable. They often sell packaged tours and vacations or travel packages inclusive of flights and often with accommodation included too at a set rate. They can obtain discounted airfares and accommodation because of bulk sales.
Airfares are usually cheaper when flights are booked well in advance. Flights on certain days, like Fridays or weekends may be more expensive because more people fly at these times. A flight in mid-week during off-season, booked well in advance can often be obtain at the fraction of the price of a flight over Easter weekend, booked a week in advance.
Airlines charge different rates and there are often special offers available at certain time slots. It pays to do research or utilise the services of a competent Travel Agent when doing flight bookings. One can save a significant amount of money this way and always have someone to revert back to should anything go wrong. The internet cannot deliver personalised service.
