Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is a little thought-of part of your travelling experience, and a grudge purchase at best. However, it is very important and may save you a lot of money on that day that you need it. Do not think, “It will not happen to me”.

There are several kinds of travel insurance. Business travel insurance packages are tailored around the travelling executive. It can even include cover for flights that are missed due to meetings that have overrun. Separate cover is usually available for laptop computers and even for the obligatory golf gear, as this is thankfully recognized as necessary business equipment by some insurers! Frequently flying executives can sometimes get more cost-effective packages.

Some insurers offer cover for students or other cash-strapped young people, but there are usually conditions as well as an age limit. In similar vein, special coverage for elderly people can be obtained, which almost always include medical cover; both lower and upper age limits normally apply.

Normal leisure travel vacation cover is for people on holiday, not business. This cover usually provides for a family situation where children must also enjoy cover. Most of the time, medical cover and cover for lost luggage is included, as well as missed connecting flights. Cruise insurance cover is not quite the same as normal leisure cover and is meant for people travelling internationally on cruise ships. Read the fine print to ensure that you have the desired cover.

Some insurers offer a very basic and cheap insurance package for travellers on a budget, or where visas are not granted to travellers without insurance cover. Another special type of insurance cover is for skiing accidents, which most normal types of insurance do not cover. This is essential if you are going on a ski holiday.

Travel insurance can often be customised outside these examples to meet the specific needs of every type of traveller.
